Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteers are the backbone of Camella’s Cupboard’s success. Without volunteers, we simply couldn’t exist.
During the COVID-19 crisis, we eliminated all but a few volunteer opportunities and filled them with board members and a few of our longstanding volunteers. I can’t thank them enough for all they’ve done these past 15 weeks! I know it’s been crazy most weeks, but we’ve always gotten it done with your help!
I am happy to announce we are opening back up to volunteers! In an effort to continue to keep our families, volunteers, and board members safe, we will start slow and opportunities will be limited at first and ramp up according to state guidelines.
All volunteers will require a temperature check, masks, and gloves at all times. We will require full contact information on each. Depending on the volunteer opportunity, a background check may also be required.
Positions we have available at this time are:
Office Assistant
This person can work from their own home doing “paperwork.” Tasks include recording meals served, posting on social media, updating the website, creating a menu and ordering food accordingly, researching grant opportunities, recording donors in Quickbooks, and much more. This job may be filled by more than one person and divided up according to interest/skill. Familiarity with Google docs is essential.
Thank You Note Writer
Gifts are so important to our organization and we believe in thank you notes, many are even hand-written! If you have readable handwriting and a way with words, we’d like you to help us personally thank our donors.
Volunteer Coordinator
We are looking for a rockstar organizer - someone to keep our website and volunteer signup up to date. Someone who is great with technology to send email and text reminders to volunteers as well as thank volunteers for their help.
Bag Packer
Assist with packing food bags. Food bags are packed once per week. Must be able to lift 20 pounds and stay on your feed the entire hour.
Once a Week Delivery Greeter
We have several weekly deliveries that need to be met, sometimes multiple per day. We are in need of someone that can meet the delivery folks, put food in appropriate storage – shelf, fridge, freezer, etc. Must have a flexible schedule on your selected day as deliveries often times arrive with short notice.
Board Members
Camella’s Cupboard is growing and diversifying our Board of Directors. Previous non-profit board experience is a must. Special areas of interest are fundraising, accounting, and board management.

Coordinate two "Summer Program Blitz" events in the New Milford community. Schedule date, time, and location; map out the area to be papered; assign volunteers; work with local government and police officials on required and necessary permitting; coordinate refreshments; and ensure the safety of all parties involved.
Time frame - Immediately through June 30

Our goal is to put on 2-3 large fundraisers annually to provide 30-50% of our annual programming budget.

Volunteer FAQs
- Are there any qualifications for volunteers?
- There are no specific skills needed except a high degree of confidentiality. While volunteers won't typically be working directly with families, you might see or hear something personal. We urge you to keep any and all information you may see or hear to yourself and give families the privacy they deserve.
- Can children volunteer?
- For liability reasons, we require children to be 12 years old. We do, however, offer a monthly Kid's Night of Volunteering for children ages 5-12. You can sign up here - KIDS NIGHT VOLUNTEER.
- Will I be able to get verification of my community service hours?
- Absolutely! We will be happy to provide you with a letter documenting your volunteer hours or sign a form you may have.
- Are my donations tax deductible?
- Yes! Camella's Cupboard is a 501(c)3 exempt organizations and donations are tax deductible. Please consult your tax adviser for your specific situation.
